Amfar at the Hotel du Cap

So just like last year the local residents are no longer allowed access tot his event. Not only are the roads blocked but this year they have even erected large black screens to block the view down to the Hotel. This afternoon I was faced with several heavily armed police who asked me what I was doing and why I had a camera. I do not look anything like a Papparazzi!! I was just walking along the street near the little Port de l’Abri de l’Olivette on my way to collect my daughter from School.
It really is silly season on the Cap!! As much as I love Cap d’Antibes days like this make me a little mad. On my walk back home from Juan Les Pins I saw shabby little cars and scooters being towed away from the Belles Rives side of Port Gallice. Isn’t that a bit extreme?? I feel sorry for the owners who will suffer massive penalties to get their vehicles back while the super rich party without giving them a second thought.
I appreciate that after the Nice attacks security has needed to be intensified but the security at the Amfar event is completely over the top- in my opinion. Even when we were allowed to be outside the entrance there were maximum 50 people there, hardly a security threat me thinks.

Some photos which I took at last years Amfar event at the Hotel du Cap.
Every year since I moved onto the Cap I have taken a wander down to watch the beautiful people arrive for this Charity Gala. The Police check is always based right under my balcony. Therefor I get to see all the limos pass through the security check on their way to the event.
Unfortunately it seems that this year all access, even for residents like me, will be blocked. So I thought I would share last years photos. Hopefully this will make up for the fact that Cap d’Antibes one and only blog may not be able to cover the event this year.
